Nguyễn Minh Tri Doan applied his language fluency skills and intercultural understanding to support live language translation in professional and medical settings.

I actively looked for Vietnamese interpreter positions by using targeted keywords and filters in my search and making use of LinkedIn's powerful job search features. In order to stay informed about possible opportunities, I kept a close eye on the website for new job postings and participated in relevant professional groups. My choice to apply for the Vietnamese interpreter position was motivated by both my language skills and my cultural connections. Being a proficient speaker of Vietnamese with a thorough awareness of cultural differences, I saw this position as the perfect opportunity to make a difference by encouraging efficient communication between people with different language backgrounds. 

What kind of work did you do throughout your internship experience? 

As a Vietnamese interpreter, I was crucial in helping people in a variety of professional situations overcome language barriers. One of my responsibilities was to translate spoken conversations between English and Vietnamese speakers, making sure that the messages were understood and conveyed accurately. This required me to adapt my language abilities for a variety of situations, including client interactions, doctor's appointments, and meetings with administrators. With this job, I was able to improve my language abilities in a formal setting, which improved my capacity to clearly communicate difficult concepts. I also gained a lot of experience in adaptability from negotiating the complexities of real-time, live interpretation. Because interpreting often requires understanding cultural aspects to convey messages appropriately, the role also helped me become more aware of how cultural nuances impact human communication.

How was the internship related to your Applied Humanities degree?

The focus on cultural understanding made it clear how my work as a Vietnamese interpreter and my Applied Humanities degree were related. My education gave me a strong foundation for understanding all aspects of human expression, which was crucial for interpreting and guaranteeing successful cross-cultural communication. 

What was your favorite part of your internship and how has this experience influenced your future plans?

As a Vietnamese interpreter, the most satisfying part of my work was seeing the real results of good communication. My future professional goals have changed dramatically as a result of this experience. Creating understanding between people who speak different languages fostered a sense of connection and cooperation, making the role incredibly fulfilling whether in the medical field or community interactions. Exposure to careers in language-related fields and cross-cultural communication has sparked interest in positions that promote international understanding. With the knowledge and experience I've gained working as a Vietnamese interpreter, my current goal is to support global communication and cooperation
