Are you curious about the profound ethical, philosophical, and cultural questions raised by the search for life in the universe? Whether you are interested in how the discovery of extraterrestrial life would reshape human understanding or how we communicate complex science to the public, a dual degree combining a space-related STEM major with a BA in Applied Humanities (Astrobiology emphasis) may be for you! As a national model for 21st-century, career-oriented liberal arts education, the UA Applied Humanities program provides students with a unique humanist perspective on space science, setting them up to be disruptive leaders in the burgeoning space industry.
The following curricular arrangements make the STEM/BA in Applied Humanities dual degree highly accessible:
Three core course requirements of the BA in Applied Humanities also satisfy general education requirements:
- PAH 200: Introduction to Applied Humanities (Satisfies Exploring Perspectives, Humanist / Tier 2 Humanities)
- PAH 201: Applied Humanities Practice: Technique and Technologies for Public Engagement (Satisfies Building Connections, Humanist / Tier 2 Humanities)
- PAH 372: Intercultural Competence: Culture, Identity, Adaptation, and Intercultural Relations (Satisfies Building Connections, Tier 2 Individuals and Societies)
Additionally, the BA in Applied Humanities minor requirement will be waived for dual-degree students.
