How did your Applied Humanities major coursework help prepare you for the internship?

Having a background in Applied Humanities came in handy several times because I already knew about many of the topics of conversation and I was able to use the “soft-skills” that were the focus of so many Applied Humanities classes.

What advice do you have for other students as they begin their internship?

Communicate with Stephanie Springer, the Applied Humanities Internship Director, and your site supervisor on a regular basis and make sure that you will be able to put in enough hours early in the semester so that you will not have to scramble at the end.

How has your internship experience influenced your plans for your future?

I was able to communicate openly and honestly with the staff at my internship site, and asking tough questions really gave me a better understanding of what I want my career to look like. This internship made me realize asking professionals in a field that I am interested in for honest advice and for “the good, the bad, and the ugly” of their job can save a person from entering into a field that is not right for them or it can assure a person that they picked the right job to turn into a career.
