How did you get your internship?

I had acquired my door-to-door sales rep internship from NorthStarHome at the University Career Fair. After I talked to a recruiter, I was invited into an information meeting where I learned what the internship was about and details including how you get paid. After that meeting, I had an interview and was offered the position on the spot.

What was the focus of your internship?

The focus of the internship was to knock-on prospect’s doors and understand their needs using question-based selling to determine if they were a good fit for a smart home alarm system. I learned many skills, including communication, listening, patience, and not taking things personally. I feel that if I'm able to do this type of job, I'm able to do anything.

What advice do you have for other students as they begin their internship?

My advice for students starting their internship is to be coachable. Do not believe you know everything there is to know about the internship. Be a sponge, absorb everything you hear around you, and make the most of the experience. There might be times you feel like quitting and but when you feel those feelings, the best thing to do may be to buckle down your bootstraps and focus.
