Ellis Traisman interned as a Student Ambassador to support College of Humanities student events.

How did you get your internship?

I've heard many great stories about being a College of Humanities student ambassador, which motivated me to reach out and apply for the position. I went through an interview process which was awesome because it was very straightforward and worked out very well. I wanted to be someone who helped other students in the Applied Humanities department, especially after experiencing what the major has done for me during my time as a student.

Why did you choose your internship?

I chose being a student ambassador because I wanted to give back to the Public & Applied Humanities department. My time as a student has been great and I could not have asked for a better department to belong to. The student ambassador position was also very flexible, which was helpful in also balancing my responsibilities as a full-time student. I was also very happy with the people I worked with, which made going to work that much better.

What type of work did you do?

Throughout the semester, I worked to set up and support COH faculty, staff, students, and prospective students at events. My goal was to work as many events as I could, and I would take the initiative to fill in for other ambassadors when necessary. Also, every other week we had our ambassador meetings where we would get up to date on what was planned for the next few weeks.

My favorite part of my internship was being able to work with so many great people. It made going to work that much better and it was fun to be a part of the ambassador program. It meant a lot to me having a great support team around me at all times, starting with the staff and also our other student ambassadors. I can't wait to be a part of a great team again starting in the spring!

What was a challenge you faced in your internship and how did you overcome it?

One challenge that I faced throughout my internship was balancing my job and my coursework, as there were times when I had lots of homework to juggle alongside my ambassador duties. Finding time for school and my internship could always be a challenge but I battled through and was able to get everything done. I learned a lot about myself through that challenge, and feel better about my ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
