Emily Meyerson gained experience in content creation and developed communication skills in the collaborative team environment at BootinBikinis.
How did you get your internship?
I acquired my internship at BootinBikinis through networking and continually exploring opportunities in the fashion and marketing industries. My roommate, who worked for the company for two years, recommended me for the position. Although the company was not actively hiring interns, my roommate recommended me and I was invited to an informal interview with the founder. During the interview, we talked about my background, experiences, and the unique abilities I could contribute to BootinBikinis. I expressed my enthusiasm for the company's strong vision and desire to contribute to its expanding footprint. By the end of our conversation, she offered me an internship, which I enthusiastically accepted.
Why did you choose this internship?
I chose this internship because it provided practical experience in public relations, marketing campaigns, and design, all of which matched my enthusiasm for creative sectors. One of the main motivators was the company's distinctive brand identification.
What kind of work did you do throughout your internship experience?
My responsibilities included monitoring the brand's social media accounts, assisting with public relations tactics, working on creative projects, and developing and implementing marketing efforts. For example, I created content for the brand's target demographic and studied social media metrics to assess campaign performance. To do this, I developed photoshoot ideas, contributing to the brand's visual storytelling, and worked together on design aspects for promotional materials. I also worked on marketing activities, such as planning influencer collaborations to increase brand visibility, and engaged in weekly strategy meetings.
What new skills did you develop in this internship?
During my internship, I improved my time management, digital marketing methods, and teamwork skills. One of the skills I most improved upon was my communication, particularly my ability to articulate original ideas and adapt them in response to constructive criticism. Being in direct connection with the founder contributed significantly to this improvement. During our weekly meetings, I was encouraged to express my thoughts and opinions on brand decisions, such as marketing tactics or possible collaborations. For example, I planned a social media campaign to commemorate the brand's third anniversary. While the initial concept was favorably appreciated, the founder and crew made suggestions to improve it further. I was then able to successfully execute and implement my campaign. This iterative process helped me gain confidence in my ability to clearly express ideas, actively listen, and effectively apply criticism. These experiences not only improved my ability to speak professionally, but also emphasized the importance of collaboration and adaptation in accomplishing common goals.

The Applied Humanities coursework’s emphasis on empathy and clear communication applied directly to my team interactions and brand messaging creation.
What was your favorite or most satisfying part of your internship?
Seeing our initiatives come to life, hearing encouraging comments from the team, and receiving a promotion in the company starting this January was extremely satisfying. It was very rewarding to know that my efforts and innovative suggestions aided in the brand's development.
How has your internship experience influenced your plans for your future?
My passion in branding and marketing in the creative industries was cemented by this internship. It also made me realize how important flexibility and creativity are, qualities I intend to use in my future professional endeavors. I feel more confident pursuing roles that combine creativity and strategic planning after this experience.
