Josh Glazer gained digital marketing skills through this internship at Back at You Media.
How did you get your internship and why did you choose it?
I got my internship at Back at You Media through a referral from my roommate. He had this internship his freshman year and when I mentioned being interested in an internship, he gave me a good recommendation. I’m really into social media marketing and real estate, so this was an ideal opportunity. I went through three Zoom meetings talking with the marketing managers and the CEOs. After the third Zoom meeting, I got a call telling me that I was hired for the internship.
I ultimately chose this internship because I knew it would help with my networking skills and figuring out if this is a path I want to pursue in the future. Another reason I wanted this specific internship was because it would allow me to apply my marketing skills and work in a supportive, driven team environment.
What kind of work did you do throughout your internship experience?
Some of the work I did during my internship was developing skills in design and marketing. I created social media posts, created marketing campaigns, and designed real estate posts using Canva. Later I was able to join meetings with the CEO and head of marketing to discuss and strategize the new tech product they were introducing in November.
What was your favorite part of your internship?
There were two favorite parts of the internship for me: the first was creating a marketing campaign and the next was being recognized as the best intern. Creating my first marketing campaign was something I was scared to do at first. But as the process continued and I improved my design skills, I started to like it and become more engaged in it. The ability to generate so much viewership through my marketing campaign was something I didn't expect and am very proud of. My second favorite moment when I got the award for best intern; it was a huge highlight for me. That showed how much growth I showed from the start to the last day and it was great to have that growth formally recognized.
How has your internship experience influenced your plans for your future?
My internship helped me think more critically about what I want to do in the future. I enjoy marketing, but I’m also open to other industries because I was able to learn so much in a short amount of time. I’m also interested in pursuing marketing but within other industries like sports.
What advice do you have for other students as they search for and begin their internship?
When looking for your ideal internship it will take time and there will probably be failures along the way. You have to keep applying and believe that there will be an internship for you. When you finally get that internship, celebrate yourself with something; it's a huge accomplishment. When you are starting your internship, it's okay if you don’t understand everything at first; just keep trying and you will figure it out.
