Tyler Wolff practiced interpersonal communication and clientele caseload management at Bond Security.

Why did you choose this internship?

I chose this internship because I thought the company’s business concept was strong and I really valued the part of the mission that focuses on keeping people safe. It also offered a mix of client communication, operations, and organization, which fit my skills and the areas I want to grow in. I saw it as a great opportunity to improve my communication skills and become more personable while working with clients. The variety of tasks, from outreach to organizing data, kept the work interesting and gave me experience I know will be useful in the future.

What kind of work did you do?

My responsibilities included calling and texting clients to encourage members to engage with the Bond Security app, logging all interactions, and keeping analytics spreadsheets up to date. I alternated between making calls and logging with my partner to keep the workflow balanced. I also attended team meetings, and adapted to changes such as adjusting call lists for different time zones. This mix of outreach and operations work gave me insight into how customer success teams keep clients engaged and supported.

What new skills did you practice in this internship?

I strengthened my communication skills by speaking with a variety of colleagues and clientele, learning how to adjust my tone and approach depending on the situation. I improved my organization and time management by balancing outreach with call logging. I also became more adaptable, especially when workflow changes came up unexpectedly. These skills will carry over to future roles in communications, marketing, or operations.

What did you find challenging about your internship?

One of the biggest challenges was that my partner and I couldn’t make calls at the same time, which meant we had to switch roles. At first, it felt like it slowed us down, but we eventually developed an efficient system where one of us called while the other logged calls which kept things moving smoothly. Adjusting to different time zones was another challenge, and taught me how to plan ahead, stay flexible, and communicate clearly with teammates.

What was your favorite part of your internship?

My favorite part was knowing the outreach I did and the data I organized directly helped the team track engagement and plan future strategies. It was rewarding to see my contributions make a real difference. Working with a supportive supervisor also made the experience more enjoyable, as I felt encouraged and guided while still being trusted to work independently.

How has your internship experience influenced your plans for your future?

I went into this internship mainly wanting to see what it takes to run a business. The founder and CEO has started and sold multiple companies, so I was hoping to get a look at how that process works. I was able to see some of it, but it made me want to learn even more about the behind-the-scenes of running a successful company. This experience confirmed that I want to own a business one day, and my specific goal is to run a franchise in the future. It gave me a better understanding of how important strong communication, organization, and operations are to making a business succeed.

What advice do you have for other students seeking internships?

Look for an internship that will challenge you while also building skills you can use in multiple career paths. Be open to a variety of tasks, because the unexpected ones often teach you the most. Communication with your supervisor is key and ask questions, and accept feedback. Even in a remote role, staying engaged and organized will help you stand out.
