When I switched my major over to Applied Humanities, I was incredibly lost with what I wanted to pursue in the not so distant future. After taking career readiness classes from Internship Director Stephanie Springer, I learned that it was okay not to have it all figured out! The job search is much like dating… you have to find what’s a good fit, and what isn’t. I was instructed to write down some of the talents I knew I had naturally, and some of the things I enjoyed doing. After that, I was able to narrow down some career paths I thought I would do well in. When it came to scoring initial interviews, persistence was key. (Especially in this job market.) Not every job will be the perfect fit, but it’s always one step closer to where you’re meant to be. I truly believe you don’t have to be the smartest person in the room, but you need to be willing to work the hardest. Use the skill set taught in your career prep classes and connect with as many people as possible. That will help tremendously along the way!
