How did you get your current job, and what kind of work do you do in your role?
I landed my role at The A List by starting as an Events + Special Projects Intern during my senior year in the Applied Humanities major. Over the summer, I transitioned into an in-person internship, which led to my promotion to Account Coordinator after graduation. In this role, I work with our Events + Special Projects team to craft targeted guest lists and coordinate celebrity and influencer attendance for high-profile brand activations and private gatherings. I've worked with brands like Veuve Clicquot, Prada Beauty, and Aritzia, and supported events from Formula 1 to Coachella and the Super Bowl -- all designed to create innovative experiences, spark press coverage, and drive social media buzz.
How did your Applied Humanities major coursework help prepare you or give you unique insight for the “real world” of work?
Applied Humanities gave me the flexibility to tailor my studies toward the fashion, events, and marketing industries while building skills I use daily -- from creative problem-solving and project management to effective communication across diverse teams. The program's focus on adaptability and cultural awareness has been invaluable when working with high-profile clients and crafting experiences that resonate with different audiences.
What is a benefit you see now in studying your area of emphasis and the applied humanities?
One of the biggest benefits was learning how to connect creativity with strategy. My area of emphasis allowed me to explore fashion and design through a real-world lens, while Applied Humanities gave me the adaptability to work across industries and audiences. That combination has been key in my work curating guest lists, collaborating with global brands, and helping produce events that make an impact.
What advice would you give to applied humanities students as they approach graduation?
Say yes to opportunities that might feel outside your exact career plan -- you never know which one will open the right door. Build genuine connections, stay curious, and treat every role (even internships) as a chance to prove your value. The skills you gain in Applied Humanities are versatile -- lean into that adaptability and use it to stand out in your industry.
With hindsight, what do you appreciate about your Applied Humanities education?
Looking back, I appreciate how my Applied Humanities education allowed me to blend creativity with practical skills while tailoring my studies toward my career goals. The program encouraged me to think critically, adapt quickly, and approach challenges with a solution-focused mindset -- all of which have been essential in navigating the fast-paced world of events and brand experiences.
