How did your Applied Humanities major coursework help prepare you or give you unique insight for the “real world” of work?
The application of a humanities based mindset has been crucial in my pursuit of professional medicine; after all, we're treating and caring for 'humans' first, and 'patient's or maladies,' second. The liberal and expansive background offered by the Applied Humanities program has allowed me to constantly see medical care and medical issues, through a broader lens; offering a more intricate and useful picture of patients, circumstances, and factors that influence human wellbeing, or the lack there of.
What advice would you give to Applied Humanities students as they approach graduation?
Please know that the tangible, and intangible perspectives and insights you've gained are applicable to ANY field of pursuit. Furthermore, your attention to the human aspect of the world will be all the more crucial, and valuable, in the age of growing digitalization and artificial intelligence; within any business, profession, or endeavor, the urge to forget the human elements will be foisted upon you by circumstance, don't.
