PAH 150A4 – The Wisdom Project: Exploring the Nature and Practice of Wisdom
Gen Ed Attribute: Writing · Gen Ed: Exploring Perspectives, Social Scientist

This course investigates wisdom, or the decisions and actions that arise out of knowing what is most important. Drawing from such contexts as education, health, and the workplace, students will explore the philosophical foundations, folk conceptions, and psychological theories of wisdom; the relationship of wisdom to morality, ethics, personality, emotion, and well-being; the connections between wisdom, leadership, and social policy; and the lack of wisdom (i.e., foolishness). Thinking and learning about one of humanity's most coveted and cherished ideals helps develop the ability to exercise good judgment and do the right thing ethically, socially, and personally (i.e., practice wisdom). Through this study of wisdom, students will also engage in a conversation about how to lead the best possible life and optimize their future choices and future selves.
